BEHAVIOR COUNSELOR


Reports to:  Coordinator of Behavioral Health Services 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 238 days

PAY: HCSD Pay Scale for Counselors - Commensurate with Experience

 

DEADLINE: Open Until Filled

QUALFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling
  • Minimum of three years experience as a mental health counselor or school counselor
  • Demonstrate understanding of federal and state special laws
  • Demonstrate understanding of inclusive education and differentiated instruction
  • Demonstrate understanding of behavior management techniques and methods
  • Demonstrate understanding of overall MTSS process as it relates to student behavior
  • Experience in conducting functional Behavior Assessments, Development of Behavior Intervention Plans, and understanding the laws as it relates to Special Education, Discipline


JOB SUMMARY:

To collaborate with educational staff in a team approach to plan, implement, supervise, and monitor effective positive behavioral intervention plans, and behavioral intervention programs designed to meet the needs of students with behavioral challenges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Work side-by-side with teachers to assess students’ needs and to improve students’ behaviors.
• Provide functional behavioral assessments
• Develop and facilitate the implementation of functional behavioral plans
• Facilitate the development of behavior modification plans
• Provide school behavior intervention support models
• Consult with teachers, administrators, and parents
• Document program results, maintain accurate records and other required data, prepare and submit reports in a timely manner
• Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality
• Serve as a resource to provide formal and informal training, guidance, and assistance to students, educators, and parents
• Keep current with issues, laws, and regulations regarding positive behavior interventions, special education, educational trends, and other issues related to children with exceptional needs
• Perform other related duties as requested or assigned
• Assist in the fostering and promotion of a positive school/office climate
• Maintain a professional demeanor during all interactions between colleagues, parents, students, and administration
