Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Performing Arts, the Theatre Director will oversee the development and implementation of the theatre program for St. John’s College High School. The director will produce and direct at least two main stage productions per year: a fall play and a spring musical.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

1.Designs and conducts recruitment/outreach programs to attract new theatre participants and promote a program that is welcoming and inclusive
2.Sponsors the high school theatre club and chapter of the International Thespian Society, an honor society for theatre students
3.Produces and directs plays for school and public performances that align with the mission and values of the school
4.Auditions students to select cast and assign parts; rehearses and drills students to ensure they master parts
5.Assigns non-performing students to backstage productions tasks such as constructing, painting, and moving scenery; manages properties and costuming; operates stage lighting and sound equipment
6.Selects script for productions in consultation with SJC administration
7.Ensures that all royalties, rental fees, and other expenses associated with a production are paid in a timely manner; maintains an accurate record of all expenses and receipts
8.In addition to the organization, planning, and direction of production, the Theatre Director is also responsible for:
a.All publicity and programs
b.Rental and purchase of all costumes and properties
c.Design, construction, and application of all lighting and sound design
d.Developing a rehearsal schedule
e.Any other duty necessary to the success of a production
9.Ensures the safety of students by adhering to stage safety while on stage, as well as adhering to general school rules and regulations while on St. John’s College High School’s premises and while traveling
10.Creates an environment conducive to learning, appropriate for the physical social–emotional development of students

    Job Requirements

      1.Bachelor’s degree required in related field
      2.Experience as director at the high school, university, or community level
      3.Demonstrates expertise in knowledge and teaching of dramatics
      4.Self-directed with proven ability to assume responsibility, work independently, and move projects to completion with minimal supervision.
