Job Description
Position Description - Middle School Science Teacher
Middle School Science Grade 8
CT General Science # 034 Preferred
The Gilbert School Science Department is seeking experienced, creative, collaborative, professional candidates to teach middle school Science who have high academic expectations and believe that all children can achieve them. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and the inquiry approach. The candidates must also be strong collaborators and articulate their beliefs about how to contribute to a positive and energized middle school team. The candidate will be asked to prepare engaging and thought-provoking lessons aligned with NGSS standards providing hands-on laboratory experience with a project-based learning approach.
An interest in robotics and coaching a robotics team would also strengthen candidacy.
Physics Teacher Requirements / Responsibilities:
CT Certification (034) General Science, 7-12
Understanding NGSS curriculum requirements, and creating syllabi, lesson plans, and educational content that satisfy these requirements.
Incorporate innovation and technology into teaching methodology.
Understand the needs, strengths, and weaknesses of students and structuring units around them.
Adjust teaching methods to suit different groups of learners.
Create engaging, stimulating project-based learning lesson plans.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all their students.
Keep abreast of developments and research in the field, and use this to ensure lessons are relevant.
Attend meetings, training sessions, workshops, conferences, and other continuing education initiatives.
Keeping the line of communication open between students, staff, and parents.
Tutoring experience would be advantageous.
Patience, innovation, and knowledge of classroom management and student discipline.
Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others
Organizational and problem solving skills
Excellent public relations
