Reports to: Lower School Principal & Head of School
Hours: 1.0 FTE

Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Works collaboratively with the principal, teachers, and supports staff to implement the Office Referral Process for all major and minor rule violations
  • Monitors behavior strategies & behavior plans, and provide support to staff implementing plans
  • Supports positive behavior strategies in classroom and nonclassroom settings.
  • Visits throughout the school building for response to rule violation.
  • Provides initial safety assessment to inform next steps
  • Interviews student, as well as peers and staff, if needed, and documents those interviews
  • Communicates with families in a timely manner, under the direction of the principal, an documents those conversations
  • Determines administrative action in consultation with principal, including: conference with student, parent contact, time in office, loss of privilege, and restitution
  • Completes follow-up agreement with students, including next day check-in
  • Updates principal at least once daily
  • Processes office referral and data collection paperwork, including data entry and communication to principal. Enters office referrals in Swis same day. Files office referrals weekly.
  • Analyzes and share data with SEST and other school personnel with an eye toward collaborative problem solving
  • Responds quickly to behavior calls.
  • Implements de-escalation strategies, when needed
  • Initiates emergency response, when needed
  • Serves as a member of behavioral support team
  • Checks in with teachers and staff implementing behavior plans regularly, and documents those check ins.
  • Supports multi-tiered booster activities
  • Is highly organized and detail oriented, including keeping a weekly planner and keeping track of student interventions on a daily basis.
  • Works with teachers, support personnel, teaching partners, outside consultants, families and directly with students.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, required
    • Valid Rhode Island Department of Education Certification - Elementary Education Teacher, Grades 1-6 required
    • BCBA or BCaBA certification or equivalent level of training in behavioral support, PBIS, and/or Responsive Classroom experience & training preferred
    • Certificate, Crisis Prevention Institute (or demonstrated ability to obtain certificate).
    • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and consistent.
    • Experience working with students who demonstrate interfering behaviors.
    • Takes a positive approach to behavior intervention and demonstrates a growth mindset.
    • Understands functional behavior assessment, and how to address functions.
    • A team player, organized, takes initiative and follows through.
    • Loves working with students.
    • Responsive Classroom/PBIS trained or willingness to take training
